The WSU Writing Program is nationally acclaimed, and for more than two decades has provided time-tested and innovative instructional theories and practices to teach, tutor, and assess writing.
For six consecutive years, U.S.News & World Report dubbed the Writing Program as an "Academic Program to Watch For" in its annual "America's Best Colleges" listing of stellar programs and institutions. Nominated by college presidents, chief academic officers, deans of students, and deans of admissions, WSU's Writing Program was valued on par with programs at institutions including Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Princeton, and Notre Dame universities.
In 2007, the Writing Program received the national "Award for Innovation" from the Conference on Basic Writing, a national collegiate organized that aides educators to teach effective written communications.
In the 2007-8 academic year, the Writing Program launched two new initiatives ...
- the Graduate and Professional Writing Center, to assist graduate students with their special written communication challenges (e.g. dissertations, theses, syllabi, rubrics and assessment tools)
- the eTutoring online writing assistance project, to connect students with peers via an Internet-based service center model.
